Agenda for Monday 4.25.11

General Announcements:

  • All three studio sections will have a mandatory pencils down on Monday night (4.25.11) at 10pm, at which time Milagros will walk through the studio and make sure everyone leaves to get some sleep.
  • We will be pinning up in the gallery.  Each student needs to be pinned up by 8:30 am on Tuesday in the gallery.  I will be in by 8:15 am.  Your pin-up locations should be posted in the gallery.
  • Each student needs to take notes on the review for the person presenting after them (for example Jamee will take notes for Austin, Austin will take notes for Mackenzie, and Joseph will take notes for Jamee).  The notes should be given or emailed to the person you took notes for.  Each student should then post their notes on their blog page and reflect on them by Wednesday 6pm.

General Announcements:

  • I will be in studio this Friday from 3:30-7pm to meet with students as needed.  Please create a sign-up sheet.
  • Designs need to be finalized by Monday at the latest, but I highly recommend getting it done earlier, say Friday.
  • I have been asked to help cover Milagros’s studio review, which was delayed because of the power outage.  So I will be out of studio today from 2-4:45pm today.

Agenda:

  • 1:15-1:30: go over final review requirements.
  • 1:30-2: desk crits (please create a sign-up sheet.

  • We have two weeks until the final review.  Design work needs to be wrapped up by next Monday at the latest (1 week) and final production needs to start at this time.
  • I will hand out final requirements for the final review on Wednesday.  If possible begin working on your final boards or model this weekend.

General Announcements:

  • We have about three weeks until the final review, so that means about two weeks of design work left.  This means many of you will really have to pick it up in the next two weeks to bring the qaulity of your designs up to the quality they need to be at for the final.  So really give it your all the next weeks to wrap up the design.

  • 1:15pm-6:15pm I will be meeting with students individually in the front.  Please pin-up your boards from Monday and/or the latest work on your project.  I will try to get through as many projects as possible, but those whom I do not see today I will see first thing Monday.

  • Building sketch model 1′=1/8″ and other models (of specific rooms / light studies) as needed.

  • Updated work on detail scale – module & screens

  • For Wednesday progress to show on the following fronts:
  1. Concept/Narrative – continue to craft the concept of your project and the story your project reveals to the occupant regarding light.
  2. Building Scale – continue to investigate and test design ideas for the building as a whole through sketch models.  Think carefully how the building is oriented in relation to the sun and how it relates to your concept and narrative.
  3. Room Scale – Begin to make larger scale study models (1/2″=1′, 1″=1′, or larger) of specific spaces in your building in order to photograph and test  how light enters the space at the scale of a room.
  4. Detail Scale -  Design when and where your screen systems will manifest themselves in the project, and how they will play a role in telling the story of your project to an occupant. Evolve an update the design of your screen and module to fit into the building and tell this story as needed.  Create new study models, 3d prints as needed.
